Mike Trout, Bryce Harper Win Rookie of the Year

I’m two-for-two so far with predicting this week’s BBWAA MLB awards, as Mike Trout and Bryce Harper win the Rookie of the Year award in each of their respective leagues. However, I must say that picking these two were the easier ones of the bunch. There was no contest in the American League, as Trout became the youngest to win the award in the Junior Circuit, while also being the first to win it unanimously since Evan Longoria did in 2008. A’s outfielder Yoenis Cespedes came in a distant second, and Rangers starting pitcher Yu Darvish rounded out the field in third place.

The NL voting was a lot closer than the AL, as Harper beat out Diamondbacks pitcher Wade Miley (who is celebrating his 26th birthday today) by only 7 points. Reds utility man Todd Frazier came in third place. Although Bryce is only 20-years-old, he’s the second-youngest to win this award since Dwight Gooden did so for the Mets in 1984.

Next up are is the announcement to reveal the top managers in both the AL and NL…hopefully I can keep my streak alive with a Capital District combo of Buck Showalter and Davey Johnson. Tune into MLB Network tonight at 6pm EST for the results.
